Can’t Install SCOM Reporting

While installing SCOM Reporting, and despite the fact that all prerequisites are met.

I was not able to processed with the installation, and the following message stopped me:

The installed version of SQL Server could not be verified or is not supported. Verify that the computer and the installed version of SQL Server meet the minimum requirements for installation, and that the firewall settings are correct. See the Supported Configurations document for further information.

Reviewing the setup logs located at

%LocalAppData%\SCOM\Logs

I found the following on the OpsMgrSetupWizard.log file:

Always:    :SRS instance on <Server_Name>. Version 11.0.3128.0.
Always:    :No SRS instances on <Server_Name>.
Error:    :getSQLInstanceVersion:  Unable to find the SRS Instance Key: MSSQLSERVER
Info:    :Info: <Server_Name> SRS version =
Error:    :Couldn’t check SRS version: Threw Exception.Type: System.ArgumentException, Exception Error Code: 0x80070057, Exception.Message: Version string portion was too short or too long.

The reason was that the installed SQL server version was 32 bits which is not supported by SCOM Reporting.
