Today I’ll mention some of the issues faced me while trying to install and configure RDS license server.
this blog post will skip the steps of activating the server and installing the license. but will give you a hint about some issues that might face you.
To ensure that your Licensing server is probably configured use the RD Licensing Diagnoser
1- RD licensing Manager shows warning on the server.
Ensure that the server is a member from the terminal server license servers group in active Directory
you can right click the server in RD Licensing Manager and select Review Configuration…
the Configuration screen you can click Add to Group to add your server to Terminal Server License Servers
2- Pending Reboot while trying to add Remote Desktop Role\
You’ll need to delete the PendingFileRenameOperations key from the registry
3- The RD Licensing Diagnoser shows “Licenses are not available for this Remote desktop session host server” and “Licensing mode for the Remote Desktop Session Host is not configured”
you will need to run the following two commands on Powershell:
$obj = gwmi -namespace “Root/CIMV2/TerminalServices” Win32_TerminalServiceSetting
$obj. SetSpecifiedLicenseServerList(“licserver.domain.local”) where “licserver.domain.local” is your license server
In addition you’ll need to defined the Licensing mode on Registry
HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\RCM\Licensing Core\LicensingMode
You need to change the DWORD to 2 for Per Device or 4 for Per User. “in my case it was 5 :D”
