Converting / Upgrading Windows server 2012 version

Do you have a running Windows server 2012 standard edition and you want to easily upgrade it to Windows server 2012 Data Center Edition?

Do you by mistake installed the windows server 2012 Standard Edition instead of the data center edition and you want to change the version without had to reinstall the windows?

Unlink Windows desktop, Windows server doesn’t have the (Windows Any time Upgrade tool).

So, to change the windows server version the steps are really simple.

1- Check your current version

DISM /online /Get-CurrentEdition

2- Check the possible Upgrade Versions

DISM /online /Get-TargetEditions

3- Enter the Target edition ID and the retail product key.

DISM /online /Set-Edition:ServerDataCenter /ProductKey:XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX /AcceptEula

After pressing Enter, the server will restart twice, after the restart you can verfiy the new version using the DISM /online /Get-CurrentEdition
